Anyone know where I can get a suitably thin-walled, long reach plug socket for my 1200GS? Simon Wong at Wollastons Northampton lent me his (thanks Simon!) to get me out of a jam/do my 12000 mile service, but I've got to give it back.

Thank you.

Plug Spanner

I got mine from my BMW main dealer (SLM).

Cost was under £7 and it also fits the front wheel spindle. The outer surface is 22mm. This also allows removal of the front wheel without buying another tool.

I can't recall the part number but it was easily found on the microfiche.

I had to order it but it came in within a few days.

Hope this helps.

Spark plug socket

Yes, I too got a spark plug socket that removes the front wheel, but curiously, it doesn't fit the spark plug at all. Even my "Fizzy" had a plug socket in the toolkit, 34 years ago.....:rob

Halfords do them. Go into the tool section and in the specialist area they do a 6" lazer plug socket for about £9 it uses a 3/8" drive

There are two box spanners in my (early and better) toolkit: a smaller one for spark plugs and a bigger one for the front wheel spindle.

one thing that boils my p**s about the bmw tool kit , where's my feckin plug spanner,

Not only no plug spanner but no coil removal tool and of course no front wheel removal tool!

Just serviced my new 1200 today and needed a plug spanner - one of my KTM plug sockets fits a treat - job done!:thumb
