I always struggle to get the caps/coils off with the special puller thing. It seems to slip off. Can anyone explain the knack that must be needed?

Yes it's crap. I even brought an ali version of the tool but that was just as bad.

Found the best way is a very large flat screwdriver. Just lever it off carefully....done it that way for years.:thumb

I've got a 10mm, 16mm hex long spark plug spanner from Halford, and it's too fat for the size of the opening. Should i put a file to it and thin it down a bit?

All,

thanks fo your help, the spanner i got from Halfords was there own brand box spanner, and as said no goood. picked up on the "Laser" make, so went back today and changed it for a Laser "socket set" type, and yes it fits, plus it fits in my tool tube a treat:beerjug:

So a big thank you to you all.

Blow the auxiliary socket fuse today, connected a 12 volt Tyre compressor,, and it bust have been pulling too many amps:blast, i'll have to run it off the trickle charger socket. :augie

Removing the plug caps - either pull them out with the cylinder head cover when adjusting the valves or two screwdrivers used as levers. One from the top and one from below. Use a rag wrapped around the shaft of each screwdriver to avoid marking the cylinder head cover.

Hi, I bought a plug spanner ages ago from the BM dealer, it does fit the top plugs not sure about the ones undernieth. The good news is the outside dimension is a perfect fit to remove the front wheel spindle.:)

You get this tool as part of the extra cost toolkit, I think. Handy that it does both jobs, but you really should get it as part of the standard tookit. It does fit lower spark plugs (which are identical to the main ones).

My March 2004 bike came with the plug spanner etc in the toolkit, a mates 2005 bike didn't. I don't use my plug spanner for the front wheel spindle even though it fits like you say, for fear of breaking it by overtorque. If I ever need it for a roadside repair I will risk it, otherwise I use an old bolt/nut mig-welded together as a home made spindle tool instead. A much stronger solution.

I've basically did the same for the front axle removal, but used a stainless 22mm hex head bolt and two nuts, and super glued nuts onto bolts, which should do the job, as the inner nut when put under presser will tighten up onto the outer nut. All very small and fits in my on board tool kit.
