I have a problem with my r1200gs wont start when warm. will crank over ok and when running is smooth and pulls hard in all gears with no hesitation would appreciate any suggestions

Could be your fuel pump controller playing up when hot. Perhaps make a temporary test lead and bypass it to see if it will start once hot.

Can you smell unburnt fuel when cranking?

If, you're getting a good spark, it can only be either lack of fuel or poor compression.

Assuming no mechanical issues; I'd check if you've got a spark, if not; what is common to both sides electrically ? Kill switch and wiring is good place too start, working towards headstock check for any chaffing. Then ignition pick up.

If that's all ok, then either fuel controller or pump failure.

Just be methodical in your approach.

A few more details would help, it doesn't cost per word in a post, you can type as many as like. How long as it been like this ? How cold or how long do you have to leave the bike before it will start ? Is there a spark ? Is there fuel ?

Given the paucity of information this is a wild guess -

A faulty crank position sensor will work fine when cold but fail when hot. It's on top of the engine timing cover under the alternator belt cover/guard.

The bike is likely to have the old black painted ignition coils. These will fail sooner or later but rarely both at the same time. If they smell of burnt insulation borrow a pair of good coils and try again.
