I got my GS from RGS and heard similar stories when it closed.

My GS was a grey import from Europe and was a bargain (almost said steal ).

Money laundering I heard.

Currently just looking to get back into a gs , and was browsing the forum when i came accross this thread and interesting enought my last dealings with a BMW dealer were with RGS and i have to say they were the worst i have ever dealt with

I have ventured down to spc once some years ago and and the first person i walked into was one of the sales persons from tooting i had previous dealt with and his attatude had not changed one bit , put me off and i voted with my feet.

The latest on the website says they are closed during the transitional period, and under new ownership. I hope if and when they re-open, things pick up and service is not only resumed, but much improved. I had noticed some dissent amongst the ranks there prior to its recent closure. Lets hope Bob/Rob/Ron/Whatever was the only cause and his departure means that things are easily fixed by a wealthy investor with a love of motorcycles and a good manager beneath them.

I always got my bike serviced by SPC due to their locality, but had very differing service depending which way the wind was blowing, whether it was a full moon etc etc. including the bike running like a pig after its 24k service and parts missing afterwards that shouldn't be like spark plug covers. It all smacked of people under stress trying to cut corners and save time rather than getting it done well.

They sorted out my niggles with my 1200 under warranty and even got me an out-of-warranty goodwill replacement final drive unit and for that I thank them, but thats no excuse for the times they failed to hit the mark.

Lets pray that when the dust settles and business resumes, customers get the quality of service that is expected from a premium brand like BMW and the management make it profitable and a decent place to work for the morale of both staff and customers alike. I've heard good things about CW in Dorchester but its a bit of a way to go for a service, I would much prefer to have SPC as my 'local' agent as they are only 30 miles away, plus I enjoy the ride up the A32.

I look forward to their reopening, if they get it right I will continue to give them my business. If not, I will take it elsewhere.

It is unlikely that SPC will trade again in its current format after the receivers have been called in. Having said that, the receivers will be anxious to sell the business quickly as a going concern and BMW are very keen indeed to maintain a dealership in that area.
Vines are probably already getting swamped with work and service lead times will increase.
I do hope the staff maintain their jobs - I always enjoyed dropping by.

I was told by someone at Vines that BMW have been speaking to two BMW car dealers in Hampshire about becoming joint car/bike dealers. Vines have already taken on a couple of SPC employees apparently.

Got my 1150 from SPC, payed if full have receipt to prove etc.........and today got a letter from the administrators saying i own £350 still!!!

After a few phone calls to them and BMW turns out that it looks like "BAD HOUSEKEEPING". And the little fella has probably made a error.

I do feel sorry for the rest of the staff, dont like to see anyone out of a job.

Now what use would a dealer at Hindhead be to those of us on the south coast?

Almost as bad as Guildford.

Southampton/Fareham/Portsmouth is where they're needed, close to decent public transport links if you need to drop your bike off and there's no loaner.

SPC web page seems to have gone again..... don't think they are going to rise again from the ashes myself....

CW seem to be being very helpful towards me... so guess I'll have to get used to the ride over there for the time being...

Snows BMW in Portsmouth would be an excellent location, straight off the M27 motorway at Eastern Rd and into Portsmouth motor park. The Snows motor group is big enough to inject much needed capital to get the motorrad business started up, and as an established BMW main dealership they wouldn't need much extra over their existing infrastructure to take on the bike franchise.

Whoever gets awarded the franchise from BMW is going to need the right people, and to get the balance right between costly overheads and sustainable customer service with profits, which is the rumour as to why SPC folded despite their existing customer base.

EDIT: Interesting that Wunderlich UK are still showing SPC as the official UK distributor. I wonder if anyone is waiting for parts from them, or if that part of the business is run independently and thus safe ????
