i'm new to this guys so be gentle! had the r1150gs for 18months now and since fitting sat. nav. i've noticed that the speedo reads 10% over. someone has suggested that fitting a different front wheel hub drive (from another bm model) cures the problem but they wern't sure which model it was from (the gs one has a 3 printed on it and they seem to think that the one to cure it has 2.87 on - this is the gear ratio i pressume) any thoughts will be appreciated
many thanks, sherpa ;)

Yep! They all do that.

Best cure is to pump your tyres up REALLY hard to give a bigger rolling diameter, thus slowing it all down!

I know (since guying my Triumph) that it is possible to make a speedo accurate. BMW, however, seem unaware of the fact!

Sherpa,

I fitted the drive from a R1100R to my Adventure, this briought the inaccuracy down from 10% to about 2-3%, which I'm content with. There is a corresponding reduction in the distance recorded on the odometer.

MikeO:)

ps I used the GPS to cross check indicated speed / actual speed. The new drive cost about £25, I got mine from Sherlock's. Dead easy to fit.....

Speedo Out

Sherpa

The only reason for the difference between the indicated and actual speed is due to the fact that to be accurate the front wheel needs to be in contact with the ground.

GPS are good d at measuring altitude and forward motion not necessarily requiring ground contact

Happy flying

good move. I to have fitted the 2.875 :1 (I think) ratio much more accurate than the 3:1 crap the bike comes with
