Can anyone tell me how to replace the glass in my speedo as i managed to smash mine as i was cleaning out the garage B*$$*%£.

Bad news, I'm afraid. BMW don't list the speedo glass as a seperate part.

You could try the usual suspects (Motorworks, Motobins etc) for a used one or ask if anyone has one surplus to requirements...

Mike:)

ps I'm assuming it's for your 1150GS?

PM Steptoe.........he's probably got twenty or thirty sitting around in a box somewhere.

:D

I think i can get glass to fit but i dont know if you can take the speedo apart, has anybody managed this. If not i will be on the hunt for a used one, this is the last time i tidy my gagage out.

Speedo glass

Hi Tiger

Did you ever manage to get the old rim and glass off? I've bought a speedo and rev counter, both with broken glass, and I can't get complete 2nd hand ones anywhere. I think getting replacement glass cut is not too much of a problem

Yes i did manage to remove the rim and glass.

I had to lay the speedo face down on an old rag and then bend the rim away from the clock with an screw driver.

You must bend the rim in very small amounts at a time and work 3 1/4 of the way round so you can just see the edge of the clock, it should now come apart.

This is not a simple job as you do not want to mark the front or side of the rim.

I have still to get new glass to finish the job, when i do i will let you know how i get on.

For what it's worth, and if distances are not too great a problem (the principal reason for buying a GS, no?) there's a fella by the name of Hartmut in California:

Hartmut C. Mees
Palo Alto Speedometer, Inc.
718 Emerson Street
Palo Alto, CA 94301-2410
Phone (650) 323-0243
Fax (650) 323-4632

Cost...? Now that's another question altogether.

He can do anything except getting me the little rubber button for the trip counter my G/S that an unscrupulous non-BMW dealer kindly removed from my bike during a verification, along with the empty toolbox that also went missing at the same time.

my speedo is shagged and i also removed the bezel....you can have my glass if you wish....only problem is i am in Ecuador at the moment.

let me know if you want to pay the p+p

Interesting ... I tried to get inside my speedo due to dust on the glass (could not get it out by shaking, vacuuming etc...) and concluded it was a sealed unit. felt that if I pried away at the bevel rim it would be permanently buckled and fooked. How would one get it back to gether again... pressing edge in presumably? probably not worth it for some irritating dust on the dial etc...

hey tiger, let us know if you need the speedo glass, otherwise it`s off in the bin.

Hi gogg ,if you still have the glass ill take it
thanks. Sorry for the late reply but i have been away. let me know the cost and i will send you a cheque asap

Many thanks TIGER11 (Nick):D
