Speedo strangeness

I'd been trundling along at around about NSL this afternoon and happened to notice the speedo needle give a slight twitch . Shortly afterwards I entered a 40 limit and slowed accordingly...but the speedo needle did not.
It was still showing 60mph as I was looking at it from the kerb.

Disconecting the unit seemed to help a bit and I managed to get it to sink to a rather more appropriate zero. I reconnected and carried on...it happened again....disconnected and reconnected which seemed to solve the problem.

Any thoughts on whether this is a common problem? Can I prevent it happening or is it just knackered?

Sounds to like the needle spindle is tight or the return spring is weak. Either case I think your in for a nice new one.....
