My R80 g/s speedo is no longer clocking up the trip / miles counters and having tried a fix and failed, now need someone to repair it. Any recommendations please. :thumb

Worth asking Mikeboy :augie.

Theres a guy a Stafford show, right by the entrance to the main exhibition hall, but he may just be Smiths or older Brit bikes.

There's a person in USA who Arkwright sent a few of his and one of mine to.

He does an excellent rebuild and also gets them quite accurate too. I'm sure I've posted his details before, so it may be worth searching the airhead section for details.

He does take a bit of time though, so you won't need it in a hurry.

I'll have a look to see if I can find any details.

I've just had my GSPD Speedo done, excellent, now accurate and steady, $100 plus postage.

For a G/S and early paralevers Speedhut do a couple of speedos which will replace the original, they are electronic, but with or without GPS and you design your own facia.

My I ask how much TJ?

Thanks for that Tuftywhite. I would rather not send to the USA, but if needs must? You would think someone in the UK would repair them.

I did ask Mikeyboy, he said he would ask around.

I’ve not found anyone in the UK. There was a guy but he got terrible reviews so I never tried him. As above, the answer is the American source.

I can double check tonight when I get home but I think it was just over £500 including DHL there and back, I asked him to keep the mileage as close as he could to what it was reading when it was taken off the bike.

Hell's teeth, that is a lot of money. I guess I will scuttle off and have another go at a repair!

Thanks for the suggestions. Had another go at a repair, 24 hour wait for the 2 pack glue of go full strength. Fingers cross.

Two Specs Steve should be able to help you, just tell him it belonged to your Granny.

This from Peter Bond, when asked if he did repairs to classic BMW speedos:

"Yes I do. Those are the side-by-side Motometer units. Later on, the tacho went electronic which I don't work on anymore. All I undertake on clocks of this vintage is complete overhauls, which includes replacement of the original weak bushes with custom units in phosphor bronze, upgraded hydraulic inertia damper etc. This will cost £225 per clock, assuming worn rather than broken, and will take four weeks to complete. Regards. Peter Bond."
