I have put NIMH rechargeable batteries in my SPIII, and set it up in the settings to use Nicad batteries (the only recgargeable option available)

Now It gives me next to zilch time on battery - and doesn't seem to recharge them.

A bit annoying when you stall, and restart (which dips the power out - so the GPS has to restart.)

Anyone else come across this?

Is it the difference between Nicad and Nimh?
(What is the difference?)
I've had a quick hunt, and can't seem to find any Nicads!

Any solutions out there?

Many Thanks,

Mike.

I'm reliably informed that the SP3 doesn't actually charge the batteries. The NiCd option is to help the battery life monitor.

The SPIII won't recharge your batteries!!

The option is only there so the unit has a voltage reference to use to estimate their state of charge. Each battery technology has it's own cell voltage.

Try recharging the batteries in a battery charger and you'll be sorted. :thumb2

Half a dozen NiMH batteries probably cost more than an SPIII is worth!

Make sure nobody nicks it for the batteries!

:D

I use bog standard batteries...the important thing is...I leave them out on the bike. Only time I put them in is for upload or download from device to PC.

Even this way the batteries last no time at all.

Old tech I guess ;)

i've put Ni-MH batteries in mine and thay last for ages, i only end up charging them a couple of times a year!
they are good quality 2600mah ones though
