I'm in the process of deep cleaning and getting some bits repainted due to leaky garagre roof and was wondering if there was a trick to getting the spokes out from the rim?

The hub fixings came away no problem but there seems to be some oxidation around the rim hole (:eek) I've tried soaking in WD40 and then gentley twatting but the little bugger is stuck tight.

Come on them enough aircraft accident investigations and the like, time to regain some focus and start sorting shit out...:rob

Thanks in advance

 It's not a good idea to take the wheel rims off the hub, as reassembly requires a specialist to set the wheel back up again. Even a BMW garage mechanic wouldn't do it for you.

You cut them short and punch the remains out with a suitable sized punch.

I don't see why any decent spoked wheel builder couldn't build the wheels assuming they can get the spokes and it is just a respoke. The only BMW specialist I know of or at least they are one of the few advertising as such is http://www.devonwheelbuilding.com/

Very few people will touch a GS spoked wheel and the spokes have to be cut out. I had a local chap do mine and although he did a good job, he said it was a feckin nightmare and wouldn't do another one!!

As mentioned, the guys at Devon are the people and well worth the cost to get the job done properly.

The only other wheel builder who does cross spokes is Kevin Blurton of Derby. His fees are £60 plus spokes.
Spokes are pften welded into the rim by aluminium oxide. If you can't get virtually ALL of them out, buy a new set because new and used might stretch differently and cause wheel to buckle.
Get the hubs chemical stripped and powder coated.
The rim is anodised which could be redone. Powder probably would not look right and may jam the spokes. Personal taste & all that.

Removing GS spokes can be a nightmare - hence why devon rim company charge a fee. The people who complain about the fee they charge have obviously never tried to remove the spokes from a GS wheel. :D

Kev Blurton says it's less cost to cut spokes and fit new. He's cheaper labour rate than Devon.
You could try soaking the rim in stages using a bowl of paraffin or diesel fuel. Diesel should lube the spoke ends better than paraffin.
