Spoked rear wheel in black satin finish - Respray?

The tip of a cable lock I had around my nearside soft pannier has been in contact with the rim of my rear wheel on my return journey to the UK and worn the paint off the nearside of the wheel rim. I am exploring options, starting with a respray. Has anyone had this done or know of a company who does this?

21 plate 1250 TB.

Those rims are anodised rather than painted. I'd think you'd need to strip it down completely and get the rim re anodised. You could have the rim painted I suppose but since you've taken the spokes out, may as well do it right. Can't see how it could be painted with the spokes in place.

A mate damaged his anodised rims whilst cleaning the wheels on his ATAS, He had to get new rims.

Or else you could cover the rub marks with some rim stickers, assuming that where the rub is allows it.

Thanks. I had reached a similar conclusion. The issue will be trying to find someone who is willing to put the wheel back together after adonising. Looking for a used one has just turned up badly scraped, chipped and corroded ones so far!! The only decent one is close to the price of a new one with 2 years guarantee (£1,350). Fine if you're just swapping wheels over to go off road, for example, but she's my baby!

I do have all winter to sort it out I suppose after my last trip in September.

Try a local independent car smart repair specialist. They can do some amazing touch ins with an airbrush

I put alloys on mine when I first got it. Bought them s/h off here and got them refurbed in satin black. I occasionally put the spokes back on when I feel like a change But at least I'll still have good OEM wheels for it when I decide I want the change the whole thing for a Neuwankpanzer. Alloys only cost £35 a piece for powder coating if anything goes wrong with the finish.

You'll find a back wheel about 100 times more easily than a front.

I've got a lovely rear spoked wheel to sell, but unfortunately it's gold.

Well, £70 for 2. Suppose for 1 it may be a bit more. Was only last year when I had them done, only took 3 days and really good quality too. I removed my own bearings and took tyres off etc.

You would struggle to get one done for 70 quid up here

OK, an update in case anyone is looking for something similar and I'm not getting this done until at least October.

Willis Wheels in Epping, Essex can take the wheel to bits and put it back together again in line with BMW specs. They don't anodise but have recommended A1 Anodising in Crawley, Sussex who have confirmed to me that they can anodise the wheel rim but can't guarantee an EXACT match.

Willis Wheels have asked me to bring the wheel over for disassembly but that it may be possible to spray the rubbed area with Black Satin paint but they won't know until they see it.

So, it's a couple of half days out in the motor and total price is estimated at £400. £300 to Willis Wheels and up to £100 to the anodisers. If Willis Wheels can spray it the price will drop significantly. Considering how poor the used ones I've seen were and the price of one from the Mothership, it sounds OK.

Not cheap. But around half the cost of a new wheel from BMW.

A little clarification about Doug Richardson's availability. I spoke to him about two minutes ago. He has gone part-time but still taking on work. He has agreed to do my wheel. He does not anodise but does a matt/satin powder coating in black that seems to work. He actually likes doing BMW wheels and said that the work around them had dropped off. The only caveat is that his semi-retirement means that wheel refurb etc. will take longer and he doesn't want to be hassled by phone calls to rush things as it just takes him away from his work.

Been looking for alloys to save my wires during the wetter months, a few rears about for 99 but no fronts, someone mentioned the difficulty in finding front alloys

Yeah fronts in either alloy or spoked are harder to find.

I've got a pair of alloys freshly powder coated black to probably sell.
