Another tyre question!!

I have a 1150 2001 with std spoked wheels, what is the widest/best sports rubber to fit??

Prob looking to fit conti road attacks or roadsmarts to replace the distanzia's on it just now.

Dont go off road - maybe get a spare set of wheels with knobblies later for that!

:confused::confused:

Can you get wider tyres in a 19" size for the front?

I wouldn't expect that anything wider than the standard 150 would work on the standard rear rim.

Why not either fit road tyres in standard size? I have Pilot Roads on mine and they're very good.

Alternatively fit BMW road wheels and tyres. R1100R, 1100RT, 1150 RT etc would all fit. You'd need to use your GS discs, and some have reported that the ABS switches in early as it gets a bit fooled by the different rotational speed of the 17" front tyre. If you don't have ABS then there should be no problem.

Looking at alloys later. , when I can afford a good set

Looks like a trip to Motoscot for some conti sport attacks , frying good reviews!!

Not sure why you would want fatter/stickier tyres when the limiting factor is probably ground clearance. I could cheerfully grind the undercarriage of my 1150 with standard Tourances fitted without batting an eyelid and still get 5000 miles from a rear / 8000 miles from a front. Why would you want to increase your costs without good reason?

On my 1200GS, I use Conti ROAD ATTACKS. I have changed the rear from standard 150/70x17 to a 160/60x17. It works just fine.

Stands scraped on BOTH sides, and still some unused rubber (chicken strips) left.

More grip , bit smoother with sports rubber , not sure about grinding footpegs on semi off road tyres!! :nenau

Ordered a set of Road attack 2's from Motoscot!!

Hopefully i will like them!!
