I would like to fix spot lights on to the crash bars i will be welding a bracket on to them as they were fixed on other crash bars.
where is the best way to wire them on to the bike ?
as my 93 r100gs has not got bmw heated grips fitted any more it still has the switch and plug fitted. Could i wire the light in to the old heated grip socket under the tank as i think the switch goes though a fuse and is just an on and off switch.

As per my reply in the Airheads Forum...

Technically they`ve got to be switched via the relevent light beam selector switch.
Meaning fogs must only be brought on with dip beam and spots be brought on with high beam.

They should really have an illuminated selector switch of their own but you can get away without on a bike (I`ve never had a problem at any MOT without).

It`s not good enough just having a stand alone on/off swich as you`re thinking about.

Seeing as you`re asking about spotlamps, the best way is to simply splice into your high beam bulb feed and use this as the +ve feed for a relay coil.

Then run a seperate fused feed from your battery through this relay to the spotlamps.

I just drilled my crashbars and put the bracket fixing bolts straight through them.
