Square tyre

Can I bring some balance to the force here

Yes, the tire is a bit square. Yes, of course a new tire will feel better. Is that tire dangerous? No! Does it 'need' changing? No!

If you ride like a hooligan, change the tire. If you don't, and lets face it most of us don't 90% of the time, leave it longer....you aren't about to die with that tire. If you only ride a few k's a year and want to max the enjoyment/feel of each k, get a new rear.

I will say though, that despite their supposed mixed compounds and supposed longer lasting middle section, the Pirellis really don't last like the marketing men would have you believe. It's disappointing because the wet grip is very good.

One last point. There's a lot of reviews that say how quick steering this tire is that tire is. This is my opinion - tires like the Roadtec 01 make you wonder how you road before without them, for a while. They're super quick steering and predictable. But do they work on a GSA or 1290? I would say they aren't the best choice if you're loaded and touring. No. With a weighted rear, the front is too lively and skittish in my opinion. And when you stop at the lights you'll be reaching for the floor more quickly. The KTM OEM tires don't steer as fast, but you can stop at the lights and then get your feet down in a more relaxed way. They suit a loaded adv bike better and lasted longer than the PR5's and 01's, though they squared off just as badly.

My 10 c's.

What is this stopping at the lights and 'reaching for the floor more quickly' / 'in a more relaxed way' ???

It doesn't 'need' changing, but the ride will feel a whole lot better with a less squared-off tyre.

Why try and salvage a few quid by running it further when it will feel horrible pretty much every ride.

All I can say is some of you have defanatly got more money than you know what to do with, nothing dangerous or wrong with that tyre,
To me that's got loads of life left in it,

Ian

What really is hilarious is that people spend £15 to £20k on a bike and quibble over the need to squeeze an extra 1000 miles, equivalent to perhaps £30, out of a tyre. To the OP, have your previous tyres squared off for you? If most or all have, what did you do ? Swap them or get them down to 'worn out'.
I'm not a knee down loonie and all my tyres have had some degree of squaring off (Pretty sure most on here will be similar whether they admit it or not), I've just learnt after dozens of tyre changes when the sweet spot is between getting my moneys worth v shit feel from a tyre not performing as it should.

I love the 1250 section . £12 well spent !!

I tend to agree, the longer I spend on here the less cool it becomes but funnier.

I'm sure there are a few cool dudes on here but if the general perception is still as it was with gs riders they really are a bunch of absolute tossers, fucking fat ones at that, guy selling 42 inch waist jeans has a buyer

A lot of new 1250GS/GSA are just rented at so much a month, they haven't spent much on a bike and all they're paying per month is the depreciation cost, that's all

So... of course they're squeezing another 1000 miles from a tyre as they're coughing up £200/month for the bike and another £150 for a new tyre that month, will bust the bike budget

At some point as you lean just to the tight radius where the squared bit meets the original curve you will be on a slick roundabout and it will slide.

Nah it won't.
It's just a square tyre guys.
Replace (both) end of story.

Some Benefits of a new tyre.
1, confidence
2, better handling
3, improved grip in the rain -(more tread to displace water)
4, less chance of a puncture.

You can buy a rear tyre for around a £100 notes. fitting under £20

Your choice, if the handling is ok, i would change it the next 2 to 300 miles looking at the picture.

If the tyre loses grip and the worst happens it will cost a hell of alot more than £120 and you will always wonder.....

You do know that most fat people (more that a couple of stone) have generally other issues going on...
Fat is a symptom of other underlying causes - not talking thyroid etc but feeling of self worth, depressed, type issues that can last a life time.
Deep down a lot of fat people are sad and have other demons, just like drug users and alcoholics.

Unhappiness can manifest in many ways. How often do you change your bikes:D

I remember the story of a guy local to me had to take a runny to get his leg over a bike he was interested in buying he near kicked the guys bike over :blast:D

On a serious note, yes I have questioned myself about all the bikes I've bought recently but came to the conclusion it was to much time on my hands and money burning a hole in my pocket and some poor decision making, think I've cracked it now :blast

You don't have to replace a square tire but they are not fun to ride when you hit the twisties because they don't steer nicely anymore...If you ride mostly straight roads I would change to a tire that lasts longer than the PR5 like CTA3 that also steers quicker in case you encounter some turns...;)

If you ride mostly straight roads go dark side..

I'm not depressed nor have I any underlying conditions.......... I just love food, am a little addicted to Milk and am a lazy bastard.
