The problem is on my 27000mile 02 1150GSA single spark with Y-piece and Remus can.
A couple months back I started to hear a sound mainly on the left hand side.It sounds like a cricket chirping on constant, the closest I've come to simulating the sound is by tapping my keys against the yolk, it's slightly higher pitched than that and pulsates, ie not a teeeeeeeet but teteteteteetetet if that makes sense. NOT TAPTAPTAPTAP
It's more noticable when I'm low over in a corner due to the sound bouncing back of the road. It's really noticable if the bike drives away from you. (had Dirk ride it) Also very noticable in 3rd gear at 2300to 2600rpm. If I move up in the rev range I think the engine/exhaust noise hides it a bit. I've not yet noticed a pattern to it, it does it when cold and hot and does not wind up with engine revs, it stays on a constant note. I want to say it sounds like a dry bearing but then again it does not wind or screetch.
I thought it was the altenator belt "flapping" but I checked and it's not that. The other thing I checked was the end can, it sounds like it might be something flapping in the way of the air flow making this "lisping" sound. It's almost like Daffy Duck's lisp when he says "S" but on constant.
I've not noticed a loss in power even though the sound is now getting louder. It's only noticable when the engine is under load, not when it's revved in neutral.
It wasn't there before so it must be something.
I've done the valves, checked the crash bars, altenator belt, wheel bearings, removed and checked the y-pice and end can and I don't think it's the cam chain tensioner as it's not a knocking or tapping sound. I like the fact that the motor rattles and taps but this is different.
I suspect the end can but could not find anything obvious. Is there any way of telling when the can is gone?
This noise is slowing driving me into orange county and it worries me as I really like my GS.
I know I'm open to abuse by the old tossers
on here for trying to describe this sound, but at this point it's worth it if out of four pages of comments I get one reply that pin points the problem or that can relate to a similar sound and a fix.
Cheers
