I've just booked my bike in for its 1st annual service and have been quoted £190. Is this the going rate as it's more than I was expecting?

Did the salesman advise you of this cost before you bought the bike? If not express your displeasure at him directly and ask him to "sort it out"

Haha, I never asked to be honest, but it's just higher than any other bike I've had. Guess that's the joys of BMW? Or should I negotiate?

My bike has now done 8k and was last services at 6.3k last Oct. Most things on the annual service were done then, and obviously don't need doing again so soon.
Apparently all that is required is the gearbox oil and hydraulic fluids, plus a few checks, replacing a bit of sponge in the hydraulic fluid reservoir and resetting the computer.

Price quoted is £71.
It appears that the full annual service would be a 6k plus the above.

If I were you I would take the tack with the salesman of "you never told me it was so bloody expensive after having just laid out £11000 etc" you get the drift
Don't forget that in most dealerships the service dept sell workshop time to the sales dept at cost plus 5% so the actual cost to the sales dept of a first service is around £45
Really don't get this annual service bit at all. What on earth could need doing to a bike that was serviced 6 months ago and travelled only 1700 miles.

I've just queried mine with the dealer as I've only done 3500 miles (been very busy with new business venture) and am wondering if I have to have this service and then another at 6,000 miles, or whether this will kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I'm still awaiting a response.

New rear Tourance was £135 fitted which was only a fiver more than arsing around myself taking the wheel off and driving it 10 miles to a nearby discount tyre shop so they got that buisness as well

I am not convonced you need to ask permision.
Should you decide to open talks.
Step one, will be to arm yourself with alternative quotes from say two or three respectable dealers.
Step two, will be to work out if you are declaring like with like. For instance, a mileage based service or an age related service.
Step three, if you are happy with the information gleaned in steps one and two, and you think you can make a fist of getting a reduction, call your dealer and do your best.
Step four, if you cannot get any discount, work out what you are going to do next.

My 6000 and annual was £225 for comparison.
Why the two services, some fluids like oil have an age limit and a mileage limit and need to be changed annually whether you have done 5 miles or 6000. Other things like valve clearances and TB sync are purely mileage related so no point in doing them early. The clearance isn't going to grow sitting in the garage. If the dates and mileage are close enough together then you can combine them. Think of it as BMW's way of saving you money by not insisting you get a full service every year on a low use bike or changing the brake fluid every year on a high mileage bike.

Thanks for all the info guys. It does appear that the £190 is for the annual service only, which seems a bit steep to me. On saying that I'm basing it on other bikes I've had (Triumph's and Suzukis). I will have to go back in another 2500 miles for its 6000 mile service.
I have to say that I find this a bit farcicle, and a bit of a rip off if I'm honest. I can't see how 2 services can be cheaper than 1. I've never owned any vehicle that needs both an annual service AND a mileage related service, it's always been one or the other.

Obviously I'd do steps 1 & 2 first, and with regards to step 3 there's no harm in asking. With regards to step 4, I'd probably just do the great English thing and curse under my breath and just still pay for the service to be done

Add £6 to change a £1 sidelight bulb.....
They did do a lovely valet though so drove out happy

Kinell ive got a 24000 at NOG this year with a yearley an was told £350 max an i change my own bulbs

Hence the reason I do all the servicing myself. Ok my bike is out of warrenty so all I do is write in the book date of service and keep all receipts.

If I'm reading the schedule correctly the annual is a 6k service plus hydraulics and gearbox oil changes.
You should therefore (according to my reasoning) be fully serviced for the next 12 months or 6k miles, whichever comes first.
Your bike will then be out of warranty and you can go down the cheaper but equally good independent path.

Hi just had a 12000 mile service on gsa and a annual for 265 inc vat.
A mate just had 12000 service on st sprint 823.00 thats not good .
So bm not so bad after all.
