!st Annual Service query?

Just booked my bike in for it's annual at the same dealers.

My bike has now done 8k and was last services at 6.3k last Oct. Most things on the annual service were done then, and obviously don't need doing again so soon.

Apparently all that is required is the gearbox oil and hydraulic fluids, plus a few checks, replacing a bit of sponge in the hydraulic fluid reservoir and resetting the computer.

Price quoted is £71.

It appears that the full annual service would be a 6k plus the above.

***Mike who was it that quoted you £71? I've just had the following quote:-
1st Annual service £197
6k service £191
6k Service + 1st annual service combined £219
***

Since posting the above I've actually managed to speak to the dealer rather than email. They say they use their common sense and obviously if you've only had the annual service done a couple of months, or a couple of thousand miles before the 6k service is due (or vice versa) then they would only do the different components, not the full service so would only be charged a nominal amount.
My faith is restored :D
I've agreed with my dealer and I'm going to rack up 1500-2000 miles in the next month or so and then do a combined service, ie a slightly late annual, and slightly early 6k. I'm assured there'll be no warranty issues :)

They have a 6000 mile schedule, an annual inspection and a 6000 service WITH annual inspection.

Everything in the annual inspection is already done within the 6k service (except charge the battery....WTF?)

If you compare the "6k service" with the "6k service with annual inspection" - they are identical apart from...

at 6000 miles - check brake fluid level
annual - change brake fluid

You don't need to take the bike in every 6k AND annually.
Service interval is every 6K OR 1 year, whichever comes first.

Unless, of course, you feel you need the oil changing more often than every 6k.....! or you want to pay someone to check your tyres and lights.....and charge the battery.. !

I do this crap for a living and have done for 30 years (i.e. designing service schedules for machinery, oil rigs, jet engines etc).
They are being deliberately vague about this to double dip the servicing.

Where did you get that price form for 12000 service

Hi just had a 12000 mile service on gsa and a annual for 265 inc vat.
A mate just had 12000 service on st sprint 823.00 thats not good .
So bm not so bad after all.

I went into Williams in Manchester to day to get a quote for a 12,000 service on my 08 r1200gs. I thought it was due at 12,000 miles, but as I had the 6,000 done at 6,600, it is due at 12,600 miles. Good job as I need to save up for it. The quote £325.00

Was your quote from a dealer as I need to have it dealer serviced as I have just had the extended warranty?

The estimate, interesting reading:
  • Oil - £73.00
  • Test Ride - £ 11.66
  • Change Brake Fluid £ 41.99 (fluid £ 2.99)
Oh forgot - the vat. Should I charge them for using my BMW on the test ride at business rate 40 pence per mile.

service

mines due soon and whilst i dont have a quote, Lind in Norwich are doing a deal on bikes 4 years and over with a bit off parts and labour etc and a courtesy bike, i guess its to hang on to some riders after the 3 years warranty and stop them going independent

it should be noted we have a good independent service place not a mile from the main dealer

having seen a few places in my time I think the more rural dealers maybe have less owner numbers to work with and are keener to do deals especially when theres a bit of competition, maybe in the big cities they have it easy with minted owners who dont ask questions?

i hear that Lind have a good reputation for price and quality on the servicing, will know soon

My bike will be due service about july/august and it will be for 18,000 miles.

Had a chat with the guys at BMW today and they told me it would cost around £230.
I'm guessing that's about right??
