The previous owner told me that the rubber trip button cover was perished and letting moisture into the speedo.
He removed (and replaced) the outside rim quite carefully and put a new piece of glass without a hole for the trip button - as cut by the local glazing shop.
This means:
1. No trip meter function
2. The glass is very glossy compared to the rev counter (rev counter glass seems to be 'coated' with an anti glare material?).
Is there anybody specialising in instrument refurbishment?
Is the rubber button for the trip available anywhere? (I have the little threaded nylon part and the original glass)
What is the chance of fitting a 'cable' operated trip function through the steel case of the speedo to be operated from outside and underneath? (Like the old chronometric Smiths from the '60's)
Comments or suggestions.
Thanks.
