Stainless Bolts & Front Engine Cover

Some help please...

Was thinking of changing front engine cover bolts to stainless on my 2010 GSA.

Are there any characteristics that differ with the stainless material, such as withstanding temperature?

Flat, spring or no washers?

Does anyone know the torque setting should I decide to change them?

I put some on mine last year with flat washers and the same torque setting. Nothing has overheated or blown up yet

a little bit of copper slip neve3r hurts eiather. as your mixing mtals it stops them seizing. if in doubt wherever I dont use locktight i use copper slip.
oh and i changed mine to Stainless with a flat washer

Had the dealer change my corroding cover last year under warranty. In less than 9 months there's corrosion around the bolt holes. I think they must have broken through the paint doing the heads up. Take care!!

Different grades of stainless have different characteristics. 304 stainless has a similar rate of expansion to aluminium but is not as resistant to corrosion as the more common, for fasteners, 316 (marine grade) stainless. Andy B's bolts are most likely 316 grade which does not expand at the same rate as ally probably accounting for the corrosion round his bolt holes where the ally has strained against the stainless cutting through the paint.
