So tucked up sipping my coco in bed and getting covered in biscuit crumbs ( digestives ) . Thought I'd have a scoot around motorworks site. Anyway I've had a brain pulse and thought , how feasible / straight forward / is it a doddle, to change all ( over 200 pieces per kit ) fastenings to stainless on a basic ?
It's a double sided thing this as I could also improve the aesthetics of my lads bike with my current fittings which are mint OE.
226.00 quids mind for the kit!

Am I bonkers ? :D

If your current fittings are mint OE I would leave well alone. Step away from your bike. Or risk actually devaluing it.

If your lads bike needs fastenings, fit stainless to his . Why double your workload?

I dont bother with the whole kit, just replace as and when as you work on the bike, but yes it dont half knock the years off when you ditch the rusty fastners.....

That makes sense:thumb2

My Kalahari has 26 k Km from new so I'll leave well alone. ;)

May start another thread at some point re my lads bike and work through the options for him. Ie rolling part restoration, do a full rest etc etc . His bike is coming up to 100 k now.

Complete kits are around £150. I bought a couple of kits of him and they are fine.:beerjug:

+1 .........I use shaw stainless kits they are really good quality and all come in little bags showing where they go on the bike, so easy but don't forget to use a bit of lube!!! :drool

I use to make stainless kits for the 1150GS, all bagged up (bags A-N and the kit weighted 2 KGs) in order of the areas they fitted.
Sold them for £56 and made a decent profit to make it worthwhile. :D

Sourcing a kit for a basic from a stainless supplier using quality stainless, not chinese. would only cost about £25-£30 :D

Tease ....:D

Whatever way you do it it is nice to have a few spares around the place, and there are a few guys on Ebay offering cheap deals on four or five hundred piece selections / kits.
As one of the guys says, the nyloc nuts alone would normally cost more than the complete kit so even if there are a few you never use you are still well in front.
Then you can just order the specials along with the other bits from your BMW supplier whenever you are working on a particular area of the bike.
