I was supposed to be somewhere in Georgia at this very moment, however due to the following last minute problems I had to resort to plan B (2 weeks at the summer house putting on weight :D)

Ok, so last Thursday when returning home from work I had a rather dangerous encounter when attempting to pass a van on the m.way. I cant rember what gear I was in but travelling at about 2-3k revs...gave it beans to pass and the engine went dead. When I say dead it didn't stall...just didn't want to go. The revs dropped all the way & I could hear spluttering from the exhaust. Also, when in neutral the bike stalled when warm. I called my mechanic & he advised I being her in.

En route I discovered that this problem was happening when in third & fourth after approx 5k revs. I noticed that dropping down or shifting up 'sorted' the problem as I was able to ride on as normal. I wasn't on a stretch suitable for 5/6th so not sure if it happened in those gears.

After various checks the plugs were changed & I gave it a whirl...whoopee I thought as the misfire had gone...however, 5 minutes into the ride the bike started stalling again. No probs with the high revs like before though.

What was checked after...

- Hall sensor
- Valve clearance
- Coil plugs
- plugged into the computer checker thing
- idle adjusted when warm...two pipes plugged under the heads & the thermometer thing used
- I'll write whatever else was done if anything that I can't remember now

Other threads suggest the lambda probe...can I simply remove mine in order to have a look? Any advice on this fecking annoying issue appreciated...cheers :beerjug:

ps. the bike is a well mainted '03 model with 60k kms and had it's last full service just over 1000kms ago...

Where's Timolgra when I need him most?! :D

How were the coil packs checked?

Swapped out for a known good pair, or just inspected visually?

My money's on one of those breaking down.

Hi guys, sorry for the late reply...just got home from hols! Started the old girl hoping the problem had sorted itself, wishful thinking :comfort

Coil packs checked using ones off another bike that work, so doesn't appear to be that...

Get the injectors checked. I know a man who substituted fuel tank (and therefore pump) had already changed coil and hall sensors...
Valves all checked, but it was injectors.

Hey all! Not had much time to tend to the old girl. Took her out for a spin last night...started perfectly and ran well until about 5 minutes when there was some hesitancy on a steady throttle, and as expected stalled at the lights. Took 2 or 3 attempts to start this time so returned home asap.

Started her again this morning...all was good until she stalled about 20 seconds later while stationary...and wouldnt start again :( Really would like to take her to the mechanic without having to rely on a tow truck...any ideas what this could be as the problem seems to have got worse :blast

bizzo...how do I go about checking the injectors?

Right, checked the injectors...both working! After reattaching injectors bike started & ran for 5 seconds then stalled, would not start again.

Removed the fuel tank checked for any kinks in hoses.

Drained some fuel from the low pressure pipe to check for water...fuel appeared normal.

Removed coilpacks & plugs, see pic below...look ok?. They're new just changed about 30kms ago.

That's as far as my skills/knowledge have taken me...any advice appreciated, pleeease :aidan

Sounds similar to my experiences....

Option 1)
Disconnect a fuel line before the injector and place the fuel line in a clean light bowl.
Turn on ignition and let fuel pump into the bowl
Allow fuel to settle and see if there are any little black bits floating around or sat in the bottom.
Refix the fuel pipe and do the same the other side.
If you see bits in the fuel, it'll be your injectors blocking from dirty fuel.

Option 2)
This happened with my Nissan Micra K11 - (lack of power, kangeroo etc ONLY when warm) it turned out to be dry solder joints on the circuit board that controlled the throttlebody..is that the potentiometer? There may be something similar to look for on the GS? It was a 10 minute fix with a solder iron. Well documented problem with the Micra and there a "how to fix" guide on the web..

Cheers!
