Reliving bike trips whilst sat at my desk....
Perhaps this should be in forum rant: Mod', your call.

In the meantime: I don't think that any one on this site will hav failed to notice that Beemers are expensive as bikes go, but build and design mostly justify the cost. But, its becoming increasingly obvious that, despite a hefty purchase bill, half the kit on the beemer isn't up to the job!

I washed my bike yesterday and I found dried splodges of the black crap off the road everywhere. on top of the beak, on top of the tank (!), behind the cylinders  , in between the shock and gearbox(behind the mud flap) Whats the point of a fancy looking rear mud flap that doesn't flap any mud and as for the front: their are two mudguards, essentially!! And the screen makes my headshake as if I have a vibrator suck up my nose. With the costs of the bike new and the look of the various parts, you'd think they'd actually had some thought spent on them...

So here's why this is in the mods section: Is there any aftermarket kit out there that will do a better job, or am I doomed to either a have a dirty bike, or have to clean it with a 5 bristled toothbrush in order to get in all the corners?

Binned the crap-flap and fitted a Motorrad Concepts hugger and a Nippy Norman Fenda - extenda on the front mudguard.
Much better but not perfect...

As for the screen: I had a Schuberth Concept lid and experienced head-shake, replaced it, as it was a few years old and got an Arai Quantum F cheap at the NEC - much better...but the screen is adjustable so experiment before you spend..

Hope this helps

Thanks for the post. Had a look at the MC website: don't appear to do any R1150GS stuff only 1200s, or did I miss something? :nenau

For the screen vibration problem, well when the rabble arrive back for the week then you'll get pointed at Tobinators (www.stopthebuffeting.com) - they do work.

I went down the crud catcher route rather than front fender extender. There is a version at http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36090 that I can recommend from personal use and a drawing to have your own made at http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56116 if you have a GSA. Won't stop all the dirt but does a good job on a lot of it.

NippyNorman will sell you a hugger. I had one on my 1100GS and it kept some crap off the back end of both the bike and me on wet days. They get pooh-poohed occasionally on here but they help on wet and dirty roads.

I have a fender extenda, rear hugger and a touratech numberplate crud catcher wotsit thingy. Together they do a good job.I tried the tobinators, an adventure screen, and eventually settled on a MRA Vario screen ( 1150 GS) which is the best for me.With screens ,everyone will have a different solution as we are all different shapes. :thumb
