I've just installed a full Starcom system with GPS/Ipod/phone. The quality on the Ipod is disappointing to say the least.

Having read the various threads I think I can boost the volume by resetting the Itunes settings.

However, the quality remains dismal with earplugs in, and I have never really been able to get the Satrcom in ear speakers in a comfortable position.

So my thoughts are turning to some custom made earplus with built in monitors.

My questions are as follows:-

1) How do you use the monitors with te Starcom headset? Do they do adaptors? Would the adaptor (if available) mean that I would have to have yet another wire somewhere in the existing Starcom set up? Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

2) Of the alterantives waht seems to be the concensus on quality/cost? Ultimate Ears or Green Leopard? Or any other alternative? I don't fancy the home made route thanks. Again, any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

schiannini is your man :thumb, he may not have seen this post, send him a PM

maybe some help here

I have a Starcom and use Ultimate Ears monitor plugs. The quality seems to be good. I believe they sell these same style of monitors to musicians so that they can hear without being deafened.

You insert the plugs into your ears and then connect the plug lead into a cable which includes a bud microphone in the helmet. This cable I have routed inside the helmet, between the lining and the shell with the socket tails hanging down by the helmet strap. you only have one lead coming form the bike to you but you have to connect two plug/socket sets to go live. You also need to remember to unplug them or it gets expensive with damaged cables as you remove your helmet.

I also have the Starcom Bluetooth module for my phone which obviates the requirement for a lead to the phone itself.

Remember to re-position the links inside the Starcom unit when you switch from speakers to earplugs. This helps to avoid blowing your eardrums into shreds:D

Thanks Packer and Jon.

I have already got Starcom headsets installed in a number of helmets (two of mine and a pillion) so I am ideaaly lloking for some way of removing the starcom speakers and integrating new earbuds/custom made plugs into the existing Starcom headsets. In other words I want to avoid buying three new microphones if I can.

Earlier posts seem to suggest that ome kind of adaptor might be available so that plugs/buds can be made to work with the Starcom headsets.

I will contact Schianni to see what he has to say but I would be very interested in anyone elses views.

Thanks

Dave

Simply cut the speakers off and replace with a 3.5mm Stereo socket, your in-ear monitors plug in....result:thumb

Been using them for years.

Thanks Cool carbon. Sound like an excellent solution.

Is it hard to fit the 3.5mm jack to the severed end of the speaker cables? I am no electrical genius.

Is there a place on the net where I might obtain the 3.5mm jacks? Or is a place like Maplins my best bet.

Dave
