I saw the post of the happy Ultimate Ear guys and felt I needed to big up Green Leopard.

I got some custom molded plugs from them and am about to order some monitors too.

Apart from the great service, friendly attitude etc (seems to have been shared by ultimate ear customers) I compared the quality of the wiring on ultimate ear and Green Leopard monitors. I even got a sound engineer friend of mine to give me his opinion and the result is that Green Leopard use a thicker noise reducing cable (as used on broadcast quality radio microphones) whereas Ultimate Ear use the sort of cabling you get with your cheap walkman type headphones.

Given the investment in custom plugs (which were a revelation to me by the way - I am amazed at how good they are for longer trips, very highly recommend them to everyone) I think Green Leopard are the best out there for the monitors.

They have a massive range and you choose what suits you best.

You can start with the "insta putty" reusable silicone earplugs which you re-mold each time you use them from £2.50 a pair which are pretty good

For a full plug which is a better fit and a permanent mold (with or without filter to allow autocom type units to still be heard while cutting out wind noise) you pay £45 (unless you want colour changing sparkly ones that glow in the dark which cost over £100!!!)

Then if you want walkman headphones in you pay £70-£75

If you just want a mobile phone in one ear you pay £35

or if you want the full blown pro-quality sort you can get them for £145 or custom mold for £195

So much depends on what you need.

The reason I would recommend them is that they really go out of their way to help you make the choice that is right for you. They don't try to get you to buy 'the next one up' from what you are looking at. They simply show you what there is, ask about the use you are intending to make of the plug and talk through all the options.

And they have good products from £2.50 through to £1000.00 for all sorts of specialist uses. Something in between will almost certainly be for you...

I don't work for them or get commission or anything - I was just really impressed. I know Ultimate Ear get a lot of praise and a lot of that is because Judge recommends them. I'm just trying to add some balance and when I'd weighed up the pros and cons in my humble opinion, for what little it's worth, Green Leopard came out on top for me and for my needs.

That's quite a price difference though 'tween the GL ones and the UE ones.......I paid £139 for my U.E custom moulded plugs in April, and that included the moulds and the modification to my autocom loom so it'd plug straight in.

I suppose my point is you get what you pay for.

When you're spending over £100 on earplugs, do you want the same cabling as you get on a pair of £1.99 walkman headphones or do you want to stump up a little more and get the same quality that the BBC use on their £2000.00 radio microphones?

I'm sure the UE stuff works fine, but I'm also sure mine will last longer

I also feel that despite having some GL reps on the forums UL seem to get all the "press" when I actually believe the GL to be a better product.

I own a Ural, but I hardly ride it since I bought my GS - you pay your money, you eat your choc ice.

The price difference is because its not the same product, GL use high fidelity 16Hz - 22Khz musicians transducers, these are intended for musicians monitors and are a full shell earplug not a canal plug.

There is also another comms only transducer with a much lower frequency response used mainly for police , security men etc which is cheaper but GL do not fit it to the music monitors.

Thanks to schiannini for the input, i'm glad he's pleased with his plugs.

Do bear in mind that in some EU countries its illegal to listen to music while riding, Spain for example.
