Any views on Starcom 1 Kit B? Currently on e-bay for £130 new. Would welcome any user feedback, particularly for rider:pillion comms, ease/practicallity of fitting headsets and whether this is a good price.

Cheers.

I think it is the same price from Starcom themselves and when you start to look at the cables - you'll probably find that they will send them with the unit without any additional postage charges. :thumb

Starcom have a very good website with all their products and accessories and if you call them - their technicians know all about the product. :thumb

Another retailer is: Sportouring, who's proprietor is extremely helpful.

Is there a guarantee with the ebay one? :mmmm

Al :D

I have been using a Starcom 1 for a little over a year. It works great for music and GPS instructions, and fair for communication with passenger. My soft spoken passenger has to shout for me to hear her.

Speaker and microphone installation depends on the helmet. It was easy on HJC CL-14 and difficult on Schuberth C2.

I'd also consider the inta-ride RP1 Duo. It's a great piece of kit and also comes pre-wired for bike to bike - you just need to add a radio.

The auto vox works well although you do need to make a bit of noise to open the channel. The mumblers among you may find this annoying but the softly spoken can still softly speak as long as they've opened the channel.

I seem to remember that they did a 7 day money back trial but I can't see a mention of it on their website.

Price is again about the same as the eBay item but you get a brand new product with full warranty...

A bit tricky to initially set up, but works great and has been v reliable with no problems. I just hard wired into the battery as it doesnt switch on until you connect the leads :thumb

I'd agree that the intaride is a good option to look at - but the Starcom1 also comes 'prewired' for bike to bike - you also have to add a radio ;)

The 'cheaper' Autocom systems may not come with that 'prewiring' - but they aren't actually cheaper either...

Regardless, if you want a warranty, you need to buy from a business - if the ebay seller in question isn't a business seller (it will state so on the aution in the top right-hand side if they are) then avoid them is my advise.

Thanks for all the advice - bought direct and not through e-bay. Slightly more expensive, but get the warranties etc (+piece of mind).

Cheers

Fernando - It's really very very easy. Seeing as you're also in Cambridge I'm more than happy to meet up somewhere and I'll show you the set up on my bike if you like.

The inta-ride does GPS, rider-pillion and iPod as standard

PM me if you'd like arrange a meet :thumb
