Just had the alternator replaced at my local shop (non-BMW)

From the first ride yesterday, the bike has been suffering some new ills...

During idle, it will occasionally stall and fail to restart. It will not crank at all, though all the electrical lights are still on, and the clock does not reset. It takes several presses of the button to begin to crank. I would guess that this is a starter issue, but it seems connected to the stalling, which was not an issue before.

This happened about 3X in 20 minutes of city riding.

It has only done this while idling (both in neutral and first gear at stop lights)...and then takes several tries to restart. It's actually quite a hazard in this traffic...once it happened in the middle of an intersection waiting to make a right turn...

I already know the clutch switch in the handle assembly does not work properly (the bike will crank in 1st on the center stand)...could my side stand switch be going bad?

It would seem like a real coincidence to me; to not have this symptom before and now have it right after the alternator replacement...logic would say the problem would be closer to the work that was just done...

Other info...a few weeks back, I removed and cleaned the starter as per the JVB DVD to prevent it from sticking after cold start-up. It did stop the big noise, but since then, there has sometimes been a less menacing residual noise for a second after cold starts.

I see that the switch is a pricey one...is there a way to diagnose the side stand switch?

Many thanks and happy holidays...

OK, back from a few 20-minute legs of errands and no re-occurrence of the stall and no start...I guess I'll just be waiting for that Gremlin to resurface....
