Over in Ireland at the moment, bike running faultlessly, but couple of times I've started it, usually first start and I'm getting the click, couple goes and it starts.
new hawker fitted January, have optimate when standing, so not sure now.

Could the terminals be to tight ?

Any ideas ?

My first suspicion would be a sticking brush in the starter motor. A firm tap with a hammer handle might unstick it until you get home.

Yeah a starter brush is a good call. Also could be a faulty energiser coil contacts. Also (too many also also's?) when you remove the starter for an inspect..... undo the long bolts holding the starter together, remove the little gear box and lather everything in a nice soft waterproof grease - did mine and cranks much quicker!

The brush set can be removed from the starter motor back end., but you need to take motor off the bike.
There are four brushes. Use small cable ties to hold them back into their holders. Slip the set over the rotor commutator. When in place cut and remove the ties. Carefully replace the cover.
Grease in the reduction gears also worked for me.

Bushes sound a good call, bike did not get much use last year and stood, I'll do motor first and see if that cures,
Got back ok, so not such a problem now.

Thanks for the help :beerjug:
