Starter motor cover???

Hi,could anyone tell me how to remove the plastic cover off the starter motor on a 2004-1150gsa.I know its just a case of removing the allen key screw then un-clip and pull,BUT!!Whats the chrome thingy sticking through with a rubber cover on it that wont go through the hole and how do you remove itHave tried an allen key but i dosnt seem to fit.Cant find any mention of it in the Haynes book. All help greatfully recived.

I think they put it on the 'newer' 1150s.

not sure how it comes off though

Yep just an allen key

I retrofitted that jumpstart point, now the plastic starter cover needs to be flexed a bit in order to come off.

Thats because it's a torq bit fitting

I think he's just talking about the jump peg.

That just unscrews normally. Use some mole grips if its tight.

Alternatively, use the Torx-key from the tool-roll that fits it.

Right you are, forgot it has a drive in the middle.

Thanks for all that,will have a look tomorrow,been out and about all weekend.Just want to have a look at starter motor as its just started to make a strange noise on fire-up.
