Hi first post please be kind. I have a r75/7 and when I try to start said beast, the starter motor engages for a second then drops out. if I press button again nothing. after repeated presses the same happens, starter motor engages for a second or two then drops out failing to start. I have fitted a new starter motor. I have ordered a new starter relay. Is it the relay, wiring, kill switch or something else? The bike has not been started for 20 years. With a squirt of starter fluid it ran when kicked over so it will some more when I can sort the starter issue. Thank you for any suggestions.

Battery or battery connections/earth seem the most likely. If that all checks out then run a wire directly from the battery to the small connection on the solenoid, if it turns over then you need to start looking at the relay.

Dont use an eazy-start.

Thins out the oil.

If it has not run for 20 years have you sprayed something like GT85 in the plug holes and turned over by hand a few times?

(OR maybe you mean, it has not run for 20 years but I have just rebuilt the motor, and with lots of nice clean & fresh oil).

Are the teeth damaged on the old starter? If so I’d suspect ring gear damage. JJH

was going to get a set myself until a set of zeta pro 2 came up at the right money , the guy who sells these is from crewe area and was happy for me to go there and inspect before going ahead , can't get much better than that
