the starter motor on my g/s needs to come out. whipped the cover off yesterday to have a quick look and could see no space to release rear mounting bolts? the manual just says remove bolts but not how. i think its a bosh unit . thanks chaps:thumb

If it's a Bosch unit then 'tis a big fecker held in place by three bolts.

The main two are the clearly visible ones at the nose end when the top cover is removed, but the third is at the blunt end and is only accessible when the front cover is off. There is a small access hole to the right (when looking in) of the diode board. You need a 10mm socket on an extension bar to get in there.

(Hopefully the battery is already disconnected before you remove the front cover).

Use a thin walled socket to get at them and replace with allen screws(stainless) when reassembling, saves a lot of bother second time around. Remove the air box to make it easier still. If you have problems getting the screws pm me and I'll send you a couple for the price of the postage.

well that was a pain but got them undone , will defo replace with cap head after that. thanks all and thanks for the offer thornley.:thumb

Bosch for reliabilty, longevity and parts avaiablity,

Valeo for ease of removal etc etc but they break down more often too, So it's not really a bonus

BIG TIP If the battery is down Don't grind them on the starter go get a jump pack or charge it up or bump it! The lower the volts available the higher the current draw and the more the carbon brushes and armature have to deal with

FEEL YEr BUmps!!!! £350 Euro they're not that feckin unreliable!!!!!!!!

They are when the magnets fall out in the middle of nowhere because they over heat!

Erich Demant does a mod that bolts the magnets in place... or the Bosch but they crank the engine slower.
