A day late, but as promised....

This one hadn't even been out on the road......after fitting, the bike had been started maybe a dozen times in the shed for tuning up, TPS, valve setting etc

I've yet to send it back to Germany, but as above, I won't be wasting my money on a cheap starter again.

That one looks like a copy of the D6RA55 with short gear. I wonder if it has glued magnets and no spring clips, not like the D6RS75 which had the "improved" magnet fixing.

I have a big problem with these crap starters but also with the cost of genuine replacements, there must be some middle ground somewhere. Meanwhile I have a Mitsubishi starter fitted, improved gearing and a 1.2 kw motor, it fair wizes the motor over.

Bill, just a thought, If your original starter motor is knackered, is it possible to swap the original casting for the cracked one but still use the German replacement body ?

Or put the new motor can onto the original motor, I would still have no confidence in it

Well my starter has just arrived.

Some subtle differences between mine and the pics that Bill posted - hopefully this means that mine will be of the 'not fall to bits' variety...

Hasn't got that nasty crack in it, for one...

At least its got the extended gear like the later 75 motor. It may even have spring clips. Certainly looks better than the other one.
