Starter woes - help needed

I'm thinking I could re-arrange the wires to the relay terminal block and stick a 4 pin relay in there instead as a short term measure?
Maybe dispense with the wire rom the clutch lever?
Would this work? :nenau

personaly for a short term measure i would fit a tempoary starter button. probably get away with a bellpush. I would think you could use a 4 pin relay. dont know too much about pin arangement etc so couldnt say for sure.

i take it you have been through all the clutch swiches and interlocks etc as motomartin suggested
looking at the haynes wiring diag for 88-90 GS. conector 30is fed via a feed that is spliced on to a main feed from the battery. so it should show battery voltage unless the splice is failing, the wire is breaking down or the batery conection is dirty. you could try a feed to here from the battery (has it got much charge left)

you tried jumpstarting it this isnt going to turn into the longest diagnosis of a duff battery is it :nenau:hide

Battery voltage is good. :thumb2

A breakthrough!

I ran a wire directly from the battery +ve to pin 30 and we have life again!

Now I just need to trace where the wire is breaking down before we have a meltdown.

horrah the monkey of much brass shall go to the ball :clap
time to trace the wire from 30 to the splice :blast cant describe where to find the splice on your loom because mine is a 92 :blast

I'm banking on it being the relay at fault, if not I'm stuffed for Skye. :(

Don't give up :rob

It sounds as though you have narrowed the problem down. However if it isn't going to work in time - here's a plan.

Jump in your car, with your bike gear etc and drive to my house (3 miles south of the Forth Road Bridge).

Leave your car in my yard and take my 100GS to Skye - I'll be on my 1150 GSA :thumb2

I'll show you some of the back roads on the way North :thumb

PM me for the details if you want to do this.

Bob.

It's a kind offer Bob, but [smug mode]I'll be riding up thank you[/smug mode] :D

Traced the wire to where the five wires meet and it was corroded to shite. The wire to the starter relay can only have been attached by about four strands.
Chopped the section out and soldered a new bit in to make up for the loss in length by cutting back to clean wire to solder.
Must remember to put solder and heatshrink on the shopping list now.

Thank you everybody for your assistance, I'm going to pour myself a drink before loading up the bike ready for tomorrow. :ChrisKelly

Well done MonkeyMan :beerjug: :thumb2
