Starting / Clock

Apologies if this has been covered before.

A few times recently when I have started the bike from cold it will "hiccup" when the starter motor is turning over.

Engine starts fine but the hiccup seems to cause the clock to reset to 00.00 indicating that there has been a total loss of battery supply.

Any ideas?

Had this and it was solved by tightening all conections to the battery...

Had this last week. Tried all the usual ABS initialisation fixes (pull in clutch, turn off lights etc etc). None worked.

£93.50 worth of Odyssey battery fixed the bugger, so I can now tell the time. Oh, and its gets the engine going just fine an' all.

Get the heated grips on and that will sort the good battery from the old.

If yours is an early bike that was delivered without heated grips it may have the shallow 14Ah battery, if it is knackered it is worth modifying the battery carrier to take the larger 18 Ah battery, as the bikes with heated grips and ABS have as standard.

Errr...14AH .....18AH....? My 1999 R1100GS has a 19AH in it from new.

My 99 R1150GS was bog standard no grips or ABS and had a shallower battery case and the same battery as an R1100S which is very shallow (about half that of the normal one)

Certainly am. New to this forum but been around a goodly while - you'll remember a certain exhaust discussion outside Halfords many moons ago (in the days of the the micapeak list) ?

Just emerging from winter hibernation and looking forward to socialising. Feb will be the first meet though. Meantime, blue and white stripey round L'boro? Probably me then.

Battery knackered. Had the same, and it seems that the clock resets when the voltage drops a bit. The engine stll cranked, albeit very hesitantly towards the end. Strangely enough, I even had the clock reset once while rolling..!

New battery fixed all that, and the ABS fault as well!
