Got an 08 R1200GS with 6k miles on it.

Had the fuel relay replaced when my bike didn't start the other week with the new black UVA coated one, old one looked fine.

Bike is still having the odd starting issue - for example you press the starter, it turns but takes a couple of times to start.

I suspect battery charge is the issue.

The bike is used regularly on both long and short trips - do you need to keep these things hooked up to an optimate or has anyone had any similar issues not involving the fuel relay?

Cheers

Steve

Have you checkd the sparkplugs? Sometimes these can cause starting problems. Easy thing to check and doesn't cost a penny! :)

I suspect battery charge is the issue.

unless the starter can't turn the engine over at normal speed it won't be that.

and no, you don't, or at least shouldn't unless they're faulty, need to hook them up to an optimate.

The starter turns, but maybe a tad slower than usual, that's what made me think of an electrical thing and when I was awaiting the emergency guy, I charged it up and it started right off.

Do the plugs get changed at the 6k service?

It still starts, just takes either presses occasionally or a bit o throttle...

Update:

I think I've figured it out. It seems to be the battery. When fully charged bike starts fine.....
