Hi twin spark 1150gs all ways fires up immediately button pushed, however today felt sluggish on starter and only fired up after 15 /20 secs of cranking engine was warm all tale tell signs like fuel pump relay working, side stand up and battery only 9 months old (Motobat), got it home put it on optimate after three hours green lights.
What should I check first please.

Funnily enough mine has been doing this recently. I changed the starter a couple of weeks ago and it spins over much quicker but when cold is sometimes reluctant to start despite spinning over well. The sluggish turn over could be your starter motor.

I wouldn't get too worried if it's only happened once.

If it fired up after 15 - 20 seconds turning over, then the battery is good.

Mine is sluggish at times when hot starting, but it's never failed to start whether first attempt or multiple. so I put it down to compression.

Mine does not like the throttle twisting on startup.

I think Flatdog's thoughts match mine. If it keeps doing it, then maybe start searching. Mine does some weirdness too but in the electrics dept. Switch on the ignition and I lose everything on the RID. Switch off and back on and all is normal. Does this very sparodically. But I've ignored it! . I can't face searching for an intermittent electrical fault. They're the worst! I'll wait until it manifests into something 'concrete'. But I doubt it will. Suggest you do the same with this sluggish start. Starter motor service might be in order though.

Thank you all think I may take tank off and check battery connection are tight as have heard that you can get odd faults from loose wiring.

If your starter is spinning for 15 - 20 seconds then there's nothing wrong with your battery or terminals being loose.

I wouldn't bother, and you could introduce more faults.
