Help !

Over the last 2 days I'm not sure if my GS has developed a problem. Twice I have started the bike- with the choke on- gone to move off and it has died. The bike then does not like to run and will die if I don't rev it. If I keep the revs up and move off after about 50yds all is fine.

I know I have developed a bad habit of blipping the throttle sharply and only a bit a couple of times before moving- could this cause problems as when I didn't do this the bike was fine !

Any ideas ?

If starting from cold, you should lift the choke lever to it's uppermost position. Leave the throttle closed, press starter. When running, gently rev the engine then let the lever return to it's unsprung "On" position and immediately ride off.
I must admit to sometimes revving the engine a bit quicker than the handbook suggests (though not what I'd call blipping), without problem (touch wood). Maybe try again being a bit more gentle? I doubt if it's the problem, but you never know?

Noticed a slight popping noise as well. Spoke to 2 BMW mechanics who have said the throttles need balancing !

I'll tell you if they were right on Tuesday after the bike has been in !

Bike returned turned out to be a problem with one of the coils or so I was told.

Top boys at South London BMW sorted it
