Starts but wont run after about 10 seconds

Because its had petrol through it, they wont ship it.
Yes, even though its drained, vented etc.....
(have the same problem with aircraft engines, even new and out of O/H are considered dangerous goods......)

Searching locally....

Then you find someone locally to post it to. And have them ship it out to you privately. It's a water pump isn't it.... :/

I found one locally, will pick it up tomorrow.
Also getting new spark plug and fuel filter - the effort to get the panels off to get to the tank, i'm going to change those whilst I'm in there.
Airfilter as well.

Okidoki, coupla hundred km's (about 300miles) on my 1150GS on Saturday to pick up parts and then fit on Sunnyday.

All ok, new fuel filter as well. Battery charged as well.

All is normal, leak checks done ok.
Key on, it primes, start, it turns over ok, and it turns over, and it turns over, but.......... it wont fire and start.

Mmmmm

Key on and off a few times to ensure the fuel is primed to the Injector.
Nope, same same. Cranks ok, but wont fire.

Remainder of day, other tasks.

Just now, Pulled the pump out to check that it primes, and also that it runs when starting. It does.

With the new spark plug in the coil holder, there is a spark.
mmmm, check fuel all the way to to the injector - there is fuel.
Pull the injector whilst connected to the fuel system, it sprays and spray pattern looks good.

So we have air, and fuel.
Not confirmed that we have spark in the cylinder.

Check you pick up coil and generator - a common failure area on these is the bolts back out and destroy the windings and pick up . There is a previous thread on here with a bike with that issue

Ok, thanks for the info.
Do you have a link to the thread?

Seems a bit drastic considering the bike was running very well before this happened.

morning all
Update and solved.
Fuel pump was swapped out, with a new fuel filter, all installed and sounded normal.
Bike would crank over but not fire up and start / run.
Checked the fuel supply at all points thru to the injector, fuel spray pattern was good.

I got a 14mm thin spark plug socket and was able to change the spark plug.
New spark plug installed, and now it runs, just fine.

I think the off-coming spark plug was the original, or at least very old.
The limited running and start attempts didn't help it, and it looked like this.

Thanks for posting, it's always good to find out the cause.

That's an interesting one, the fact that it would start and run before cutting out, for me ruled out the plug as the culprit. Always good to learn!

No, the fuel pump is definitely no good, part of the house is cracked and so when it presurises, fuel spurts from the crack.

I think the plug was extra fouled due to trying to start or only for 10seconds, so it want burning off the soot.

Two problems, one masked.
