I went along one of my favourite routes today, first time in about 8 months.

Along Loch Ness to Fort Augustus, then turn off at Glen Garry heading towards the west. The Glen Garry follows onto the Glen Shiel road which is pretty atrocious. Never mind a racing line, I spent most of my time watching the large pot holes and strips of missing tarmac.

Talk about temporary filling in of pot holes, we had repairs on repairs with tarmac slapped down anywhere without any thought.

it's a lovely route to take you to the west but if you do go down this way take care.

Rode one of my favourite wee roads yesterday, the Kinlochleven loop. The road is generally in quite a good condition however the potholes have been filled with that spray tar / grit stuff. As usual a lot of the grit does not stick and ends up loose all over the road. That's okay in small patches as you can generally ride round this but there were a few bends where they had covered larger areas across the whole carriageway....

Anyway, it still a great wee road.

I didn't read it all but this paragraph is used several times to support a reduction in speed limit....

The character of the road through this section is generally representative of a national speed limit. However, the low mean speed suggests that the driver’s perception of the route hazards necessitates travelling at a reduced speed. No common causation factors where found when assessing the accidents, which would be better supported by accident remedial measures.

It implies that because the average speed is low then that is a reason to reduce the speed limit. It also implies that higher average speeds should be used as justification for increasing the speed limit, but I somehow doubt that would ever happen. But, we know what we need to do.

And, I was on the A87 Invergarry road at Easter and OP is right. The potholes on the W bound carriageway were appalling.

They can do what they like along there and apart from the Invergarry part being 30 or 40 no one will take any notice of the proposed 50 limits. while I was at the GlenGarry view point a group of super cars went by, Lamborghini's, Ferraris, super Porches, Aston's etc and certainly NOT keeping to NSL.

No, but if it has a speed limit lower than most, the target driven culture infesting Police Scotland will result in speed checks because it will be an easy way of meeting quotas, therefore it will suffer more speed traps...it will be a good money maker also. Having forced the speed limit, they WILL enforce it.

There is a movement to fight this limit imposition...

but given the Scottish Government's track record of ignoring consultation, it is unlikely to gain any traction.

Bloody hell complaints about the roads in Scotland, try travelling south of the border , it is a pleasure to travel out of Northumberland across the border into Scotland because the roads are so much better !

Another instance of government departments following their own agenda irrespective of the desires of the local people. Incremental erosion of democracy.

The key factor for those involved in the review will be the perceived risk to their jobs if accident rates don't improve. Sack the lot of them and raise the standard of driving with a harder driving test and periodic retests.
