The standard horn is pretty feeble, and I note other people's recommendation of the Stebel horns. Has anyone fitted one of these to a 12GS? Any problems fitting etc?
Thanks
Mike

I'm considering the same mod as well. I know that Mouse is running a couple of horns in parallel, so not quite sure how fine the current monitoring is on this circuit.

Hi
I have managed to fit one to my 1200.

It is not possible to wire it direct to the original wiring as the canbus system detects extra wattage draw and turns off that system.

It has to be wired through the supplied relay, it is necessary to dismantle the original plug and make up a small wiring loom for the new horn to work.

The only place I could find to mount the stebel horn was to make a bracket and hang it from the brace arm that fits from the steering head to the front of the frame using a u-bolt and a length of steel.

You have to watch how it mounts as not to interfere with the suspension and the brake line.

Nice and loud now.

Hope this helps.

I have mounted 2 116db Hella horns on my R12GS using the stock wiring plus a couple of wires to run the 2 horns together. Loud as hell and the CANBUS does not seem to care.

I don't know if these guys ship to the UK, but I expect there is a more local source, if not, as Hella is on your side of the pond.

I bought the HL6010, and HL60019. Mounted one where the stock horn sites, then used a bit of flat steel stock to loop up over top of that one and hold the other in front of it at an angle so it didn't interfere with the forks.

Did you test this theory out, as Mouse is running two horns from the same circuit?

Any chances of a picture showing the arrangement, might give me some ideas. Just had a look at the position of the horn and I can see its quite tight, given the sweep of the forks and brake lines. Cheers :beerjug:
