Hi, I've just bought one of these superb horns and wondered if I need to upgrade the wiring for it or is the standard BMW wiring up to the job? :nenau Cheers.

I fitted it straight onto mine with no modifications to the wiring and worked fine, but eventually removed it and replaced it with a stebel magnum as the nautilus took up too much space

relay

It draws too much current for the original wiring. You need to feed a relay with your original wiring and then use biggert stuff to power the horn, or have a fire!

Total bollox - have you ever fitted one ?

I've fitted 3 to 3 different bikes using standard existing wiring and relays and all are working fine several years on.

Thanks peeps. I'll stick it on with the BMW wiring.

Horn

Originally directly replace my standard horn with the Naultilus without any mods and it kept blowing the fuse. Wired it through a relay with a direct power source and its been fine.

I'ts not as you say "total Bollix". it won't catch fire (thats what fuses are for)
but it may loose a bit of power owing to volt drop as you've only got 12 volts to start with. Run a new feed AND AN EARTH from the battery via the std relay (fuse in the pos side of course) and you will then get full power make sure the cables are nice and thick (lower resistance less volt drop)
also be careful of fixing that stupid" hook on bracket" can come off, obviously designed for car use a tight fit but it does wake up car drivers who err!.
Dave GS. (Half at least of the volt drop is caused by using the frame etc as a conductor, same applies to non HID headlights)
