Stebel Nautilus - it will go in!

Hi all,

Did a search but couldn't find this so loaded it up fall all to see. The Nautilus horn can be split so the compressor can be mounted away from the horns so providing more options when space is tight....hope it helps

Well this is useful as I have an unused one that I couldn't see how to fit easily and so bought the magnum and fitted that in ten mins
How does it actually come apart :nenau
 
Now that's interesting. I've got one ready to fit I just haven't got around to it yet, mostly due to not seeing an obvious place to put it without making up some bracketry.
Tell me more please. :thumb2
 
Update

Ok I have got the compresser off the plastic horns bit by prising the clip away an sliding the comp up and out of the mounting trouble is the metal bodied comp provided the only fixing point for the unit as a whole so now when it's in two pieces there is no obvious way to fix the plastic horn unit :nenau
 
I don't know what the problem is, I fitted a nautilus and at first was faced with the same dilemna that everyone seems to be confronted with in that it just seems to big to fit where the stock horn is......but after some fettling and general poking around I found it fits in so easily.

I have a 1100 but have since fitted one in exactly the same way onto a mate's 1150 . The bolt that the original horn bolts on to is part of a bracket. There is another bolt that goes horizontally from left to right above it and this bolt holds the original horn bracket in place. I removed the bolt and took the mounting plates from the original horn and fitted them so the go straight down parrallel with the fork leg.

The nautilus can simply be bolted directly onto that bracket and it is set far enough back to not interfere with the forks and it clears the suspension too.

The next part of the puzzle was the wiring . It comes with it's own relay and the wiring diagram leaves you puzzled to say the least. I just used the exisiting wiring from the original horn - hit the button and feck me !!!!!!! What a blast Nautilus installed and working easy as you like :nenau

I can't think why anyone would start trying to break it open and go to all the trouble you are to fit this - it's 2 bolts and it's done....

When I fitted mine I read all the articles and the reason for not using the stock wiring is that the Stebel uses more juice than the original horn and there is a danger you can burn the original wiring out. Therefore use the relay to the stock wiring to detect the press of the original horn button, but wire the horn direct to the battery using the supplied wiring which is up to the job.

I've had no trouble after more than 3 years of running around with it fitted like this. Mind you I tend not to ride around with my thumb on the horn button unless I really need to use it :P I guess maybe if you were Italian it may melt the wiring or flatten your battery after about 5 minutes of driving in Rome or Milano ;)
