Hi

I stripped the steering head bearings this weekend and cleaned and regreased them. In doing so the lower bearing rollers fell out of the bearing cage.

Is the lower bearing supposed to be as fragile as this? It was an absolute b**tard getting the bearing back together again.

Also how much marking on the upper bearing outer face indicates its time to replace the bearing? I had thin black lines on mine but I could not feel anything using a fingertip and there is no trace of notchiness in the reassembled bearing.

If there is no notchiness or play in the bearing then you have got away with it :thumb2

All the bearing rollers should remain in their cage.

I've just done the head bearings on the GS sidecar outfit...VERN had the bearings out in 11.2 seconds

I'll stick something up later with some pics :)
