There is movment in my top yoke on my 2000 model 1150 gs . Is it a big job to replace the bearing ? BMW are looking £200 ,it looks to me to be one 10mm cap bolt in the middle and removal of the fork legs and thats it ,can anyone give me some advice. Pics would be good as i have no manual .:beerjug:

Are you sure you need to replace bearing ???
there is a small bit of play in it

To remove is easy enought
remove plastic cover
remove clip
remove fork tops and push down
bit of heat on bolt to losen thread lock
then remove bolt

there is quite a bit of movement in mine, not only is the yoke moving front to back but you can lift the bars up and down . does the bearing just press out of the yoke or is there heat required ? can anyone tell me what torque n/m the 10 mm cap bolt is tightened to .thanks

A Haynes or Clymer manual is relatively cheap and a good investment if you're going to be doing jobs like this.

Check 10mm allen screw under the plastic cap in centre top yoke is tight, mine did that and it was easy to fix. Needs to be seriously tight. bin

Spen I think you phoned me yesterday about this best idea is to Call down and let me see and I'll let you know if it's excessive but I think you're safe enough

I don't think anyone has Had to change a top yoke bearing at 22,000 miles on an 1150 GS yet???

I took the bike out for a spin and called past hursts just to give me piece of mind and the mechanic said it was def shagged,So i was thinking of changing the bearing to be sure .can you buy a bearing that is not a BMW one .or are they specific to BM"S

Where abouts in Ireland are you ???
You will need to get bearing number of bearing then
do a search for it ( or you could phone Hurst's and ask
for bearing number :augie )
But if I was you id let Jay have a look at it before you
start anything, mileage is very, very low for that bearing
to go...

Got it all pulled apart ,many thanks Jay .I"ll get you a pint in the "Mill" next time i"m down :beerjug:
