Stella Alpina Rally

Me,me, me I went. For those of you who enjoyed riding the Colle delle Finnestre I've just hear from Enzo - the Italian chap we went offroading with the day before the Stella - that it has now been permanently closed to motorbikes and quads. But it's still open for cars!!!!!!

Seems like Italian government is as daft as ours.

That can't be right, I hope ! Thats a well used route betwwen the two valleys. I have even seen small delivery trucks using it. Damn if it is as we are going back in September for a run around the high bits.

Hi Noddy. This is what Enzo said in his email - and they ride around there most weekends.

" Today we went for a ride on the Assietta and found out it was closed due to a bicycle race... and it will be closed all august for motor vehicles!
But the worst bit is that the Colle delle Finestre is now permanently closed to bikes and quads!!!

We rode it together for the last time...

How sad and ridiculous, considering cars and 4wd SUV are still allowed...
I'm so fed up with stupid, arrogant and ignorant politicians... and we are paying their exceptional salaries with our taxes."

Try the other side of

the mountain- see tracks
It's a road between France (hotels) and Italy
beautiful and well worth the wee detour via the Mont Cenis Lake

Nettie- if you missed out on the event T shirt and badge for the Stella
I bought an extra one -if you want it , email /pm me

Have a great time Noddy.

Tarka would love to go next year but we're planning on maybe going to the USA and doing Route 66 next year, but don't forget our invitation if you're ever down this way.

Yep Saturday night was fun. But for a non-coffee drinker it took about 3 days for me to get over all that coffee in the station bar.

And you're secret's safe with me:gringo

We were there last weekend (10. – 11.08). Finestre is open, Assietta is closed, and there is sign when you came from Finestre. We ignored the sign, and we were not only one, there were lot of vehicles, including all sorts of motorcycles. Day after, I was talking with two German riders, and they said that police patrol was waiting and turning people back.

Sommellier is closed on weekends from 09 to 17.

Jafferau is also closed, but we took our chance and went to the top. Again, we were not alone there.

You can find this map on petrol stations and hotel receptions in Bardonecchia.

This could be an attempt to halt the erosion caused by people in 4x4's.

If this is permanent instead of seasonal , does this mean this was the last Stella Alpina at the Sommelier ?
