What's the furthest you've ever ridden in a single sitting? 450miles was about my record but it was about to be surpassed by two days of 750miles across Spain and France accompanied by Neil, Rob, Casper, Jason, Roberto, Peter and Donnie.
The rain started at Le Mans and stayed with us until Madrid where the temperature dropped to zero before blossoming to 18 in Algeciras. That first beer in Bayonne at the end of day one simply evaporated even before it hit the back of my throat. Several more would be needed to block out the stereophonic snoring coming from the team. As you'll be aware DakarDC suffered a horrendous accident in Southern Spain and we all wish him well.
The trip was excellent in every way - great company, stunning roads including a very special "off-souk" route through Marrakech, breathtaking views and plenty of enterainment. I would strongly recommend this Dash to everyone who hasn't yet been to Morocco.
Any way, the story in pictures:
Bikes strapped onto the ferry at Ceuta
Roberto and Jason having a moment
Roberto, me and Peter
The Rock
The first stop on the road to Fez for mint tea and cake
Peter informs me he has gone guerrilla style
Rob found an upgrade for his 1150GSAdv
Fez traffic
The first taste of a cold Casablanca beer
Dinner - it's supposed to be meat and prunes!
Ifrane in the Middle Atlas Mountains for more mint tea
On the road to Marrakech
Dinner at the market
Goat on the go
Casper's best side
On the road to the Tichka pass
Donnie
Someone thought the banker and the snake appropriate
Peter's 1200GSA rescues Jason's 1150GS with a flat battery
Ever seen eight GSers ride through the Souk in Marrakech? no, nor had anyone else in what was a tour highlight, watch out for the 17min video which will be posted
Steptoe off to see our riad for the night in the middle of the Medina
Looks stunning and we were promised a room each, ensuite, hot water and as much mint tea as you can drink
They lied, Peter, Casper, Donnie and I in one room, the others in a similar situation
At least there was breakfast
Packed for the road home
Five days is a mere taster but just goes to show what you can do in a short space of time.
