Hmm the front brakes are dragging a bit ..Ive pumped the pistons out as far as I dare and gave the pistons a clean ..but theyre still a bit draggy ..looks like I'll need to split the calipers and renew/clean out the seals ... :( done it loads of times on jap bikes but feel a bit daunted doin it on the gs with the abs ..is just as straight forward or is it a faff and bleeding the calipers then the abs unit .. ???:confused: cheers
 
Check that the front wheel is installed properly (according to manual - bouncing the front between tightening axle and clamp bolts). If it's not on properly it can be ever so slightly out of line and therefore cause brakes to drag.

Might be miles off, but that solved a dragging issue I had.
 
Before splitting you could always pop out the pistons and have a good clean. Use red brake grease before putting pistons back in. Did mine and now front wheel spins!!
 
Before you split them are the retention pins and contact points between the pads and calliper 100% clean and free moving?
 
Are you still using the original rubber brake lines? If the pistons looked clean this may be the problem.
If they do need a strip and clean then don't worry about bleeding them after, it's very easy.
 
I recently done mine on my 1150GSA, ditched the servo first and tried to salvage the annoying little scraper seals with no luck (thought that they were the only problem). Eventually gave in an ordered the complete service kit from M/works including the pistons (which I didn't need & already knew that anyway) for the BMW Evo calipers, the corrosion under the dust seals had forced a couple of them out far enough to twist with the movement from the piston but the main issue was the amount of corrosion under and around the main seals themselves causing them to bulge!
If you are going to have a look take the whole thing apart as there's a guarantee that yours are likely to be the same, I had to buy the complete kit for the Tocinko calipers but you will be able to get seals only for the 1100 so peace of mind for a few more miles :D
 
If you just want seals, try a company called powerhouse uk (IIRC)
they have supplied obsolete stuff to me in the past:thumb
I generally fit full kits personally but obviously I have liabilities to consider:comfort

Powerhouse are the business, I've just ordered a kit for the rear caliper from them but they were pretty much the same price as Motorworks for the Tocinko setup :thumb
 
Take the unions off and blank off with a m10 nut and bolt with some washers,this will prevent the system draining and give you some peice of mind while you service the calipers:comfort

Thanks ..Ive used that method before :thumb2..I took the calipers off today and lost about a tablespoon of fluid from each hose by the time I'd faffed putting the bolts n washers thru the banjo's..what I did noticed that although I'd lost that much fluid there was still loads in the mastercylinder..hmm wonder if it had been over filled to compensate the pads are pretty worn on that side its the side with the seized brake pin .?? any hoo theyre getting sent to powerhouse uk tomorro for a rebuild ..
