The ignition on my F800GS has become increasingly stiff over the Winter and makes turning the key difficult. Has anyone had this issue before or know how to fix it? Is it possible to strip the barrel and clean it out?

My ignition started to get sticky, I was told to spray chain lube in the barrel.
It has made the lock easier to operate.

A spray lubricant containing PTFE is an excellent remedy; spray it into the ignition barrel.

It's out of warranty and it's a little scary when you're miles from home and it feels like it may break the key!

I've sprayed with lube and gets a little better and at points it has been fine after a little lube and working the key in and out :toungincheek

How much we talking for a new barrel installed?

A quick squirt of ACF-50 works wonders ...

Been doing that, seems a bit easier although it`s not consistent, if it`s still stiff at 6k service I will get dealer to have a look.
Don`t fancy snapping key off in lock!

Had the same problem here. Bike is always outside, even in ice, snow and rain. The keyswitch wasn't turning well, few times after the ignition went crazy.

Bike was on and off, switching the ignition on, with the key in my pockets. Couldn't start it though, probably the EWS. Day after, bike wouldn't start at all, even with the key, EWS was going nuts. Had it towed to a dealer, he replaced the electronic bit under the key switch.

Was fine for about a month, than the same sh#t again. took it to an other dealer (my usual dealer) and he replaced the entire bit, key switch with the electronic bit and stuf, now it is working fine.
Though I'm not sure I can trust it with my life

Grtz, Philip!
