Sticky throttle with heated grips on?

I noticed the throttle was sticking when I rode up to London the other week. Half way through my journey I switched the heated grips off and soon after I noticed that the throttle had loosened again.

Experimented again on this morning's ride and came to the same conclusion - the throttle only seems to stick when the grips are on and hot.

My first thought is that the grip expanding as it's getting hot is somehow 'wedging' the grip against the handlebar control housing or the bar-end so that it won't 'spring back' when released, but surely it only expands a fraction 'length-wise'?

Thoughts?
 
There is a couple of mm end float on my throttle when cold, maybe there isn't enough on yours? It's not likely to be a function of diameter as the heat will make the moving part expand in diameter.

remove bar end slip a suitable washer ( I think it's M8 ) on the handlebar side and refit and tighten everything properly.

Never worry about the smart arse Gits in here they are quite helpful usually :thumb
 
I think it is totally unacceptable for faults like this to occur on a premium brand motorcycle - why should we have to modify our motorcycles with washers in order to make them work properly, they should be designed correctly in the first place!

Bugger off back to the WC section and keep trying to convince yourself that your brand new 12k bike doesn't have a fundamental design issue with its clutch ;)

As I have replied many times in the past.

There is no need for a washer.
There are 2 easy ways to cure this without a washer.

Easiest way.
Just drop the bike on it's right hand side so that the handlebar end hits the ground with a good thump.

Next way:
Loosen the screws holding the throttle assembly onto the handlebar, and move the assembly in about 1mm. Retighten screws. Job done.

Yup fixing properly is the way but removing switchgear screws and mirror to get at the mount bolt is tedious and problematic for ham fisted clarts

So one bolt removed one washer inserted and one bolt refitted safe fix with little chance of loosing anything

P.S. Idea One is a No No Myke you really shouldn't tease the chaps in here you know it's not the WC section nay even the 1200 section in Ere tha knows!
