My r1150gs (2001, 70k) has developed a stiff throttle which get much worse when the heated grips are on - it literally sticks in place like cruise control. Now that might seem like a feature, but it is getting quite uncomfortable on long trips.

I have replaced the rubber grips, and there is definitely a bit of friction with the bar ends. But even with the bar ends off the throttle is stiff.

I fear that mean replacing the throttle cables. But that is an unpleasant job. Any other possible fixes or things I might have missed?

Thanks Neil, however it is bad even without the bar end on. Washer helps, but not enough.

Either the left or right short drop down cables will be frayed inside the outer sleeve so you can't see it, my one went the same way and when I took it off the cable only had a few strands left intact.
Really not difficult to do and even easier if your servo/abs has been removed as you can lift and twist the battery box enough to angle the Bowden better.
I've also just done the one on my 1100 with the abs still in place and it was just as easy but maybe there's more room on the 1100 compared to the GSA?

It's a little bit expensive but definitely better than getting stranded somewhere :thumb
