After fitting new throttle cables, I had to sync the throttles on my R1150GSA. The new cables were different lengths compared to the 60k mile old ones. The idle, pickup and overall running were all over the place.
After much googling, I ended up using the procedure in the video below. While other procedures say to never adjust the throttle stop adjusters, this procedure is different, and recommends a very nice way to get to a known start setting from where to do all the remaining adjustments. I had to adjust the right side throttle stop to get the initial setting as the cable was too tight, making me think it had previously been adjust to counter cable stretch. I used two 1mm thick washers at the point where the guy in the video uses a feeler gauge. Now, everything is super smooth.
I used cheapo Amazon vacuum gauges which I thought were completely faulty, but it was just that the throttles were so far out with the new cables that the readings were all over the place. It is important to use the little restrictors that come with the gauges to smooth out the vacuum pulses.
